Die Vorbereitungen laufen / Preparation is under way

Regenbogen gesehen vom Wohnzimmerfenster in Soest

Bei dem wechselhaften Wetter in Soest konnten wir aus unserem Wohnzimmerfenster einen schönen Regenbogen bewundern. Das Motiv war in fast allen lokalen Zeitungen abgelichtet. Ich habe aus zwei Fotos das obige Bild zusammengesetzt.  Es ist immer noch kalt, tagsüber so um die 13°C. Wir haben jetzt fast alles mit der Rentenversicherung geklärt. Rente kommt ab dem 01.10.2012. Die Einkäufe für Spanien sind auch alle getätigt. Nächste Woche werden wir noch ein Paket nach Spanien schicken. 

We could see from our window in the living room the rainbow after a heavy rain shower. This motive has been published in all local newspaper. I have constructed the picture from two shots. Still the temperature during the day is not more than 13°C. We had a meeting with the pension fund on Tuesday. All went well and we have found the best day to begin with the retirement is 01.10.2012. The purchase of items for the boat is also over and all thinks have been delivered. Next week we will dispatch the items to Spain.  

Die erste Woche in Deutschland / The first week in Germany

Die Ostertage haben wir in Soest verbracht. Es ist kalt hier bei uns. In N'Djamena hatten wir 44° und hier geht es in der Nacht stramm auf null Grad zu. Da muss die Heizung brummen. Wir sind am 10. und 11. April nach Eschborn gefahren um noch einige Sachen zu erledigen und Weiterfahrt nach Freiburg mit Übernachtung. In Freiburg ist der Lieferant des RO-Wassermachers für La Paloma. Interessantes Gespräch mit den Konstrukteur geführt. Danach haben wir Günter in Waldbrunn bei Karlsruhe besucht und bei ihm übernachtet. Am 13.04. ging es weiter nach Norden nach Strümpfelbrunn Freunde besuchen und nach einem ausgiebigen Plausch weiter Richtung Norden zum Kaffee zu Ballmanns. Unsere Endstation war dann Mainz bei Thea und Gerhard, dort sind wir über Nacht geblieben. Am Samstagmorgen über Usingen mit Besuch bei Freunden zurück nach Soest. Ab Montag starten dann die Vorbereitungen für den Ausstieg, Krankenkasse, Bank, Arztbesuche etc. Noch ein paar Bestellungen getätigt. Halter für neuen Computer für La Paloma angefertigt. Mal sehen was noch alles so kommt. Elke hat schon einen Besuchsplan für die Familie aufgestellt, damit auch keiner vergessen wird. 

The Easter holidays we stayed in our house in Soest. It is could her in Soest. In N'Djamena we had 44° plus and here we are approaching 0° night. The heater system is working hart. Tuesday 10-11.04 we went to Eschborn to finalize our work there and say goodbye to some staff there. In the afternoon of 11.04 we went further south to the city of Freiburg. There we stayed overnight. In Freiburg we had a nice meeting with the constructor of our water maker for La Paloma. After that we turned around back north to visit Günter in Waldbrunn. Here we past the night in Günter's house. Next morning we drove more north to visit our old friend Fran and his wife Roswita in Strümpfelbrunn. We had nice talks 10 years after our last visit. One more visit for the day on the road north was planned to Michael and Jutta Ballmann, old friends from Liberia. The last destination for the day was Mainz to Thea and Gerhard, where we past the night. On Saturday morning we continued via Usingen back to Germany. In Usingen we have visited our old friend Elke und Jürgen Haub. In the 70's we have lived in Usingen for a short while. Saturday evening we arrived in Soest. From Monday on we have to start with the preparation of our retirement, Health insurance, bank, doctor's visit etc. Also I placed some more orders for La Paloma. I fabricated a holder for the new computer for La Paloma. There are many thinks more to think of. Elke has made already a plan to visit all the family in order that no one will be forgotten.  

In Soest aufgeschlagen / Arrived in Soest

Unser Haus in Soest / Our Home in Soest 

Wir sind in Soest aufgeschlagen. Nach einer hektischen letzten Woche in N'Djamena. Vor der Übergabe an den neuen Besitzer unseres Autos musste ich noch einmal eine Aktion machen, es kamen komische Geräusche von der Lenkhilfepumpe. Das konnten wir aber schnell und endgültig lösen. Meine Mechaniker hatten irgendwann mal eine Schraube vergessen einzubauen. Dadurch war die Lenkhilfepumpe nicht richtig fixiert und konnte sich verdrehen, sodass die Riemenscheibe der Lenkhilfepumpe an der Riemenscheibe des Klimakompressors schliff. Das konnten wir nachhaltig beheben. Dann konnte das Auto übergeben werden. Hoffen wir, dass der neue Besitzer meinen GD 300 gut behandelt und lange Spaß daran hat. Am Freitagabend ging es dann um 23:20 mit der Airfrance ab N'Djamena nach Paris und gleich weiter nach Düsseldorf, wo wir um 08:30 ankamen. Das vorbestellte Auto abgeholt und da es Samstag war und nicht viel Verkehr im Ruhrgebiet war, schlugen wir um 11:30 in Soest auf. Hier ist alles soweit in Ordnung. Elke hat mittlerweile schon den Berg an Post abgearbeitet. Jetzt genießen wir erst einmal das schnelle Internet und die Küche der Mutter. Am Dienstag ist eine Fahrt nach Eschborn zur GIZ geplant. Mittwoch die ärztliche Untersuchung in Eschborn. Dann ist es geschafft und wir sind frei, Hurra.

We have arrived in Soest, our home town. After a hectic last week in N'Djamena, we left Friday night. Before I could hand over the car to the new owner, I discovered a strange noise from the steering pump. This we could solve without big problems. What has happened; some time before my mechanics has forgotten to enter one bolt to the holder of the steering pump bracket. The pump could turn in a way that the pulley of the steering pump was touching the pulley from the A/C compressor. We replaced the bolt and her we solved the problem once and forever. After that I could hand over the car to the new owner. Hopefully the new owner will take care for the car and has lasting fun with it. Friday night at 23:20 we took off from N’Djamena with Air France to Paris and from there direct to Düsseldorf, where we landed at 08:30. Quickly we picked up the rented car and took off for Soest. Since it was Saturday no heavy traffic was encountered towards our home City Soest, where we finally landed at 11:30 to our house. Here all is well. Elke has sorted the mountain of mail already out. I have installed the computer an enjoyed the fast internet and Mothers cooking. Tuesday we will travel to Eschborn to see the GIZ. Wednesday we have medical checkup and a few meeting here and there. After that we are free, Hurrah it is done.

Es ist geschafft / it is done

Uff, es ist geschafft. Das Haus haben wir gestern Nachmittag übergeben. Die Koffer sind gepackt und wir sind für die letzte Woche in ein Hotel gezogen. Das Luftfrachtgepäck ist vom Spediteur abgeholt. Die nächste Woche ist noch mit ein paar Aufräumarbeiten im Büro zu überstehen. Am Freitag hatten wir die Abschiedsfeier im Büro. Das Auto ist verkauft, da sind auch noch ein paar kleine Baustellen zu erledigen. Der neue Besitzer hat auch die erste Rate angezahlt, der Rest kommt am Dienstag. Dann wird das Auto übergeben. 

Die letzten 4 Wochen waren für Elke schon recht anstrengend. Wir hatten die Maler im und um das Haus. Da hatte Elke was zu schimpfen. Die kamen erst um 09:00 angetrabt, dann war erst einmal Tee trinken angesagt. So wurde um ca. 10:00 erst angefangen zu streichen, nach 2 Stunden traten massive Ermüdungserscheinungen bei der Truppe auf und meistens verschwanden diese dann nach 2-3 Stunden wieder. Dadurch zog sich das Ganze auch über einen Monat hin. Die Qualität der Arbeit ließ auch sehr zu wünschen übrig. Jetzt ist es überstanden, hat keinen außer Elke gestört. Alle waren zufrieden. So ist das nun mal in Afrika, am Ende regelt sich das irgendwie immer.

Ufff, all it is over now. We have handed over the house to our successor on Saturday afternoon. The suitcases are packed and we are in the hotel now. The transporter has collected our air fright to Germany. The coming week I have to make some clearing work in the office. The car has been sold, but need some touch up here and there. The new owner has paid the first installment; the second is due on Tuesday. After that the car will be delivered.

The last 4 weeks where rather stressing for Elke. The painter has to paint in and outside of the house. There Elke was very disappointed with the painter. They arrived in the morning not before 09:00. Then Tee drinking was on the agenda, before 10:00 no work performed basically. After 2-3 ours they start to develop already become tired und most ofd the time the painter disappeared after 3 hours. For that reason it took that 4 weeks long to finish the work. The Quality of the work is also questionable and not very professional. Now it is finish and all are satisfied. This is Africa; somehow at the end all is fine.
