Ruhige Tage vor Anker in San Miguell / quiet days on anchor in San Miguel

Since Monday we are on anchor in Puerto San Miguel. It has been very quiet here with not much wind. The nights where cool and the mosquito left us in peace. With our small diving compressor i had cleaned the bottom of the ship, a tiring work, but necessary to keep the boat clean from shells. Now all is clean and the boat will move freely. Today on Friday we will continue our sailing around the island of Ibiza, if the wind permits.

Ein geruhsamer Sonntag / A quiet Sunday

Spanisches traditionellles Essen / real spanish food

Today we plant a quiet Sunday in San Antonio. The captain has invited the crew Elke for lunch. This we took in a traditional spanish restaurant. Unfortunatelly there are not much traditional restaurants left, most of them have changed to food for the tourist. But there are some left, good, but expensiv. After that Ferdinand took a nice nap and a good swimm in the sea. For Elke the water is still too cold, 23 C. So she has to wash her hair in a different way. The buty has to be done.

Vor Anker in San Antonio, Ibiza / At Anchor in San Antonio, Ibiza

Im Bootsmannstuhl im Mast / in the bosum chair high in the rigg

Since Thursday we are in San Antonio on Anchor. The weather is fantastic and we enjoy the stay here. Lots of activities around here like water skying, and all related fun. On our sail from the main land to here our line for the flags cut and have to be replaced. Luckily we could save the flags to land in the sea. That means the captain has to enter in the mast. We hoisted our special lift to the top of the mast and attach the bosom chair to it and up  the captain is in the air. Elke has attached a security line to the chair to avoid the captain is falling on deck, this leaves bloody marks on the teak and the captain is hurt. Our solar installation versus the consumption of electricity in 24 hours is well balanced, we are producing more electricity then we normally consume in 24 hours. Yesterday we started the water maker (drinking water from sea water). After 2,5t hours we had recovered all the consumption for the last 4 days in our water tank. There was enough electricity even to charge the battery. This is a nice system to do this all with solar energy without CO2 emission and noise from a Generator. See the picture from the captain in the mast.

Endlich wird gesegelt / finally we are sailing

Finally on 20.06.2012 we hoist sails for Ibiza. Wind from southwest 2-3 BF. The wind hold until 22:00 after that Rasmus has emptied his wind sack and we had to take the motor to continue. At 02:00 Rasmus has filled up the wind sack again and we could set sails again. not the direct course, but we have time. Not like on our holiday trips where we used the motor more often. At 14:00 we drop the anchor in San Antonio, Ibiza. After that some clearing up and lunch was prepared. Some small repair jobs has to be finished. No we are sitting in the cockpit and enjoying the sun downer beer.

Ende gut alles gut / finally we are clear

Elke ihre Schatzkiste / the secret box for Elke

At the end all will be cleared. After a visit to the sail maker this morning and my announcement that we are sailing tomorrow even without the new sail and the pols, there was some kind of action in the workshop. My spinnaker pools lying on the floor and my sail was packed and ready. At midday the pools where at the boat and the sail up the mast for testing. All was well and thinks are in place. Even the sunshade for the cockpit was quickly modified to our needs. At 6 pm the sunshade was mounted and the bills paid. Tomorrow we are on the way to Ibiza, the wind is from the right direction and we should have a nice trip.

Weiter im Takt / Continuation of work

Today I have installed the box for our spare kooking gas on the after deck. We will need more back-up in the future and will cook more then before. The box is looking nice and I will make a picture after Elke has finished the painting. The cable from the Garmin plotter to the VHF radio has been installed from the steering console to the radio shack through the engine room. All is working well and I can receive the AIS data now on the chart plotter.Under Marterial / Eqipment report I have posted the result of the solar installation. It is nice to see how much AH the soalr is pumping in to the batteries. We are producing more energy then we are consuming during 24 hours.  The sail maker is still lacking behind with his work. We have decided to sail to Ibiza on Wednesday, because the wind is favorable for this direction. If we wait longer we have to stay until Sunday the earliest.

Wassereinbruch / Water in the boat

Also ran an den Feind.

On our last test drive we had to sail against the waves back to the port. Here we discover that the deck was leaking on top of the pots and pans of the chief cook Elke. This could not be tolerated by Elke. So we found that the bolts from the foresail rail which has been bolted through the deck where leaking.we have loosen the bolts an found no sealing was used during installation. Loosing the bolt was not that easy, one even break and has to be changed. We attacked the issue with large supports from wood fitting nicely in the corner and used lots of Sikaflex sealing material. After the test we could report dry ship at this point. We found 3 more small leakages from the old screws of the teak deck. This I sealed with glass mats and epoxy glue. So now the compartment of pots and pans is water sealed again, the chief cook is happy and freedom on the boat.

Der erste freie Sonntag seit Mai / the first free Sunday since May

Siehe Bild:

Today we had the first Sunday free of work. So we decided to test our new gennacker with 84 square meter. Christaina and Richard cam with us for the test. After we had sorted out this snake of 13 meter lengths and we left the port then cam the moment to untied the snake and lift her up to the mast. It was a pleasure to see how La Paloma was moving forward. Up to 7 knots of speed we could generate only with the gennacker. The boat was very stable and was moving like a train. see the picture:

Christina and Richard geniessen das Segeln / Christina and Richard enjoying the sailing

After the sailing in the port on anchor Elke served us an excellent traditional meal on the table. A nice roosted meat with "Knödel" dumplings and mixed vegetable. Christina, Richard and us have enjoyed the meal. Big thanks to the cook.

Die Chefin ist an Bord / the boss lady is on board

UFF!!!!. geschafft, damit nerved Elke mich schon einige Zeit. Hier ein paar Bilder.

Now Elke has taken the command in the boat. Now other priorities are on target. The good news are that the kitchen is now back to quality. Good food is back on the table. For that reason I have done a modification to the pot holder on the stove. The constructor of the originals system supplied with the cooker has not been a sailor or he was not in charge of the food production on board. Elke hated the system from the beginning on, so after all I have to do something now. With some pot holder from another brand, I could make modifications which found the approval of Elke. Hurray the cook is satisfied. See the picture:

Hier der Umbau der Topfhalter / here you can see the modification

Noch einmal / once more

The big winch for the foresail has got a new sister for the reefing of the foresail. Now the reefing for the foresail is more easy on haevy wind. Now Elke can do it alone.

Yesterday we already installed the new solar plate with 140 Watts of peak power above the Davids to hold our dingy. Today we could watch the amount of Ampere was flowing to the batteries. A total of 111,4 AH was supplied to the batteries. In the peak there was 19,8 Ampere delivered to the batteries. I think now we have our energy problem solved.

Heute wird ein regnerischer Tag / Today there will be on rainy day

Mal sehen was der Tag so bringt.

Today the day started wit a thunder. Normally a few drops will wet everything and thats it. This was also the case. After mid day the son was in control. Our club Nautico had a regatta day today. With me was the rule clear up the ship, the first captain, Elke is coming on board, and the ship should be clean. In that action I twisted my back to much and have now serious back pain. It will get better soon. Tomorrow we will install the new solar module. This will increase the total solar power to 340 Watt. I am interested to see what will be the result on charging power to the batteries. From 13:00 on I am busy to collect the captain No. 1 from the air port. That means structure will be arriving on board, the anarchy is over.

Der Wassermacher arbeitet / The Water maker is working

Das erste Glas Trinkwasser aus dem RO-Wassermacher / the first glas of water from the RO-Water maker

So schmeckt Trinkwasser aus Meerwasser gewonnen / the taste of portable water from salt water

Auch der kritische Richard war überzeugt / also Richard was convinced

Die einzige Beschwerde war, es ist ja kein Bier / the only complain was, it is no beer

Today we had a premiere in starting the water maker. After finalizing the installation of the RO-Water maker yesterday the test was on the schedule today. After solving some small leakages on the filter and piping, the test could start. We have performed the test according the instruction from the manual of the H2O-Factory and after finalizing all the procedures we had the change to drink the first glass of portable water from our new installed RO-Water maker. Thanks to H2O-Factory for the good piece of equipment they supplied. The test in daily using the w2ater maker will come on a later stage. The only complained by Richard was „this is no beer“
