Wir sind im Atlantik / We are in the Atlantic

Nachdem wir unsere Tanks in Gibraltar mit Diesel gefüllt haben, sind wir aufgebrochen die Meerenge von Gibraltar zu bezwingen. Das gestaltete sich am Anfang als einfach, aber kaum hatten wir Tarifa umrundet, da kam der Hammer von Hinten. Der Ostwind legte immer weiter zu und wir hatten nur noch ein kleines Stück der Genua, ca. 10 Quadratmeter ausgerollt. Es ging mächtig los, aber die Wellen bauten sich immer höher auf. Da mussten wir nun durch, zurück ging nicht mehr. Wegen einer Flachstelle mussten wir auch noch einen Kurs segeln, der unser Autopilot nicht mochte. Also war Handsteuern angesagt. Die Wellenhöhe hat sicher 3-4 Meter und der Wind in den Böen 7-8 BF entwickelt. Der GPS hat eine maximale Geschwindigkeit von 11,4 Knoten gemessen.  Nachdem wir das Flach passiert haben, konnte wir den Kurs anlegen der unserm Autopiloten das Steuern ermöglichte. Bei dieser Gelegenheit konnten wir auch gleich unsere neue Kuchenbude ausprobieren. Wir können jetzt ja das gesamte Cockpit zumachen. Das war auch notwendig, kam doch so mache Dusche rein. An Unseren betagten Bssansegel hat es ein paar Nähte aufgerissen,der braucht erst einmal einen Segelmacher der ihn wieder zusammen näht. Jetzt ist der Wind abgeflaut zu 1-2 BF und wir kommen den Rest der Strecke nur langsam voran. Elke hat sich nach der anstrengenden Naht in in die Koje verzogen. Um ca. 17:00 werden wir in Puerto El Rompido in die Marina gehen. Das mal auf die Schnelle.

After filling our diesel tanks with duty free diesel we took off for passing the street of Gibraltar. At the begining it was a pice of cake. After we rounded Tarifa the western entrance to the street the wind was picking up stadily from behind us. The wind from the east was increasing very fast and the hight of the wafes as well. But we have to take it as it is, no way to return. We had only a small areas of the genua, approx. 10 msquare out as sail. The top speed was registered in the GPS with 11,4 knots. We have to set course to avoid to much shallowa water and this course our autopilot dont like at all. So I have to steer the boat myselfe until after midnight. The wind picked up to 7-8 BF and the wave hight was at leats 4 Meter. After that we could set course to use the autopilot again. We could also test our cockpit tarpauline to cover the entire cockpit to keep the srpay out and make it more confortable for us. On one of our sals some part where ripped apart, so we may need a sailmaker to repair it. Now we are under Motor and thwe wind has eased down to almost nothing. Elke has gone to bed to take a rest and I will saty on watch. At 17:00 hours we are hopefully in the port of el Rompido. This as a fast infromation.
