Ankerliegen im Hafen Palmeira / on anchor in the port Palmeira

Jetzt liegen wir schon 5 Tage hier vor Anker. Es kommt ab und zu eine Fähre vorbei, nicht in sehr Vertrauens erweckendem Zustand. Ein Containerschiff und ein Tanker hatten angelegt. Der Tanker hat eindrucksvoll ohne Schlepperhilfe im Hafen gedreht. Unser Anker sitzt prächtig im Sand und wir haben uns trotz Windstärken über 20 Knoten nicht vom Fleck gerührt. Am 28.12. slipte der Anker einer Hanse 540 und trieb gegen uns. Dabei wurde eines unserer Solarmodule beschädigt. Habe mächtig geschimpft, da wir dem Skipper schon in der Nacht signalisiert hatten er ankert zu nahe an uns. So ist es nun einmal, man muss mehr auf andere aufpassen als auf sich selbst. Das war ein Charterschiff mit Gästen an Bord. Der Skipper kam nachdem er neu geankert hatte und hat den Schaden beglichen und sich entschuldigt. Zum Glück war nur der ALU-Rahmen verbogen und das Modul nicht beschädigt. Den Rahmen habe ich repariert, jetzt funktioniert alles wieder normal. Nur der Versuch unseren Generator zu reparieren schlug fehl, er will leider nicht anspringen. Meine Vermutung, zu wenig Kompression. Das ist dann eine größere Nummer. Mache ich später einmal. Schwierig ist es auch mit dem Befüllen der Gasflaschen, den richtigen Adapter haben wir nicht an Bord. Der hiesige Vertreter Vertreter vom Trans Ocean arbeitet aber an einer Lösung. Oliver wird uns noch ein paar Adapter mitbringen, dann können wir von Fremdflaschen Gas auf unsere Flaschen umfüllen. Von der Insel haben wir noch nicht viel gesehen, außer den Flughafen. Die Landschaft gleicht der vom Tschad und Elke ist dementsprechend begeistert. Außer ein paar Akazien und vereinzelt ein Palme im Garten von Häusern wächst anscheinen nichts. Im Süden sind an langen Sandstränden Touristenzentren entstanden, wo auch viele Deutsche Urlaub machen. Dies Fremdinvestitionen haben viele Bauarbeiter mit Familien nach SAL gelockt und die Bevölkerung von 4.000 auf ca.40.000 verzehnfacht. Nach Erledigung der  Bauarbeiten sind die Bauarbeiter auf der Insel verblieben und die Arbeitslosigkeit ist mit ca. 70 % sehr hoch. Was die Kriminalität zwangsläufig in die Höhe treibt. In Palmeira selbst hält sich die Straßenkriminalität allerdings in Grenzen. Man kann ohne Probleme im Dorf rumlaufen und das Beiboot an der Fischerpier festmachen. Meistens sind ein paar Jungens dort, die gegen ein kleinen Entgelt auf das Beiboot aufpassen. Für Morgen haben wir uns mit ein paar Leuten zusammengetan und wollen eine Inselrundfahrt mit dem Kleinbus machen. Ein paar Sehenswürdigkeiten gibt es ja. In einen Vulkankrater soll es ein Salzschwimmbad geben ähnlich wie das Tote Meer.

Now we are 5 days on anchor in the port of Palmeira. From time to time there is a ferry in the port. The condition is not very convincing, but it still moving. One container freighter and one tanker has been in the port. The tanker has turned without the help of a tuck boat in the narrow port, good operation. Our anchor is sitting good in the sand of the port. We have strong wind of more then 22 knots and the boat has not moved an inch. On 28.12. in the morning the boat in front of us the anchor of the Hanse 540 came loose and the boat drifted against us and damaged on of our solar module. I was very angry since we told them in the night there are anchoring to close to us. After the skipper has dropped the anchor at a different place came to sort the problem out with us. He paid a new panel and excused himself for the mistake. Fortunately only the frame of the panel was bend and we could repair it with material we had on board. Now the solar panel is charging again our batteries. The other problem we facing is the charging of our gas bottles. The adapter for the Shell filling station is missing. The only one was with the local Trans Ocean rep, but he gave it to some boat owner to charge and he forgot not bring it back to him. Now we have a problem. Oliver will bring us some adapter to solve the problem. After that we can charge our bottles from other bottles available here in town. The attempt to repair our engine from the generator has failed. It seems that the engine needs some deeper repair actions. But this is not urgent now.  We have not seen much of the island until now, except the air port. The vegetation is similar to the Chat vegetation, Elke is not very interested. Only some Acacia trees are growing and here and there a coconut tree in the garden of private houses. In the south there are long sandy beaches and lots of tourists are there. This exterior investments have brought lots of workers and their families to the island. The population has been lifted from 4.000 to 40.000 people. After3 the construction was completed the worker stayed on the island. The unemployment here is approx. 70% and the criminality is high. In the village of Palmeira the street criminality is not very high. We can walk around the streets and can leave the Dinghy an the fisherman pier. Most of the time on of the youngsters are there and guard the boat for a few pennies. Tomorrow we have rented a small bus with some other sailors to see the island.  A few nice places should be on the island. In one of the volcano crater there is a salt water pool like the dead sea with a high salt content.
