Wir sind gestern und heute mit dem Mietwagen über die Insel gefahren. Sehr interessant was wir zu sehen bekamen. Die Insel ist ja die kleinste der Kanaren. Hat aber auf dem kleinen Raum verschiedene Klimazonen mit unterschiedlicher Vegetation. Der Süden ist von Vulkanausbrüchen gezeichnet und wenig bewachsen. In den Höhenlagen im Osten und im Westen sind ausgedehnte Kanaren-Kieferwälder mit altem Baumbestand. Die Passatwolken bringen Feuchtigkeit, welche sich in den Höhenlagen abregnen. Wir haben bizarre Formen von erkalteter Lava gesehen. Wacholdebäume die vom Wetter in erstaunliche Formen gebracht wurden. Im Westen kommen die Brecher des Atlantiks mit großer Wucht an die Küste. Die Bevölkerung ist freundlich und das Leben beschaulich. Es leben viele Deutsche auf der Insel, was sich auch im Angebot der Supermärkte widerspiegelt. Die Infrastruktur ist auch auf dieser Insel im guten Zustand. Linienbusse verkehren regelmäßig und oft. Große Teile der Insel wurde erst nach 1960 elektrifiziert. Ankerplätze gibt es auch nicht. Zwei Häfen hat die Insel, aber nur einer ist für Sportboote eingerichtet, hat aber immer noch keinen Wasser und Stromanschluss.
The last 2 days we toured the island of Hierro. It was very interesting what we saw. The Island Hierro is the smallest of the 7 Islands of the Canaries. The island has different climatic zones an different vegetation. The south has been strived by volcano eruptions and very little vegetation. In the upper part on the east and west side of the island there are large forests of old pine trees. The clouds of the passat is bringing humidity to the mountains where it often rains. We have seen bizarre forms of lava flowing down the volcano, juniper trees bend by the constant wind. On the west coast the waves of the Ocean are beating the coast with large spray. The people are friendly and live is some kind of easy. Lots of German are on the island, this is also reflected by the contents in the supermarkets. The infrastructure is in good condition. Public transport is running fairly often through out the whole island. Anchor places around the islands are rare and most of the boats have to stay in the harbour. From the 2 ports only one has some structures to support spot boats. But still there is no water and electricity on the jetty. Large part of the island was only covered by electric and water as late as 1960.
